In the last month, Marist College senior Nicki Boisvert has raised $500 for victims of Hurricane Ike – but not because she was one, or because she has family in the Gulf Coast. Instead, she says, the fundraising coincides with one of her long-term goals – to take those who have slipped from the public consciousness, or things people are afraid of, and make them human to a broader audience.
